Sue Perkins has been announced as the host for the 2024 Social Mobility Awards
(SOMOs ™). A household name on British television and Radio, Sue’s quick fire, self-deprecating comedy has entertained the nation since 1997, presenting ‘The Great British Bake Off’ for seven series (2010-2016).

The UK Social Mobility Awards were established to encourage initiatives that will promote and increase social mobility within the UK’s companies and institutions. The night will celebrate winners from across 15 categories, both organisational and individual.

Sue’s career on television began as one half of double act Mel and Sue. With Mel Giedroyc, the pair found fame on Channel Four’s daytime show ‘Light Lunch’, which ran for five series before transferring to an evening slot on ‘Late Lunch’. The two continued to present together on the hugely popular ‘The Great British Bake Off’, with the 2015 series finale pulled in 13 million viewers, making it the most watched TV show of the year.

2013 saw the premiere of Sue’s own sitcom ‘Heading Out’ on BBC 2, which she starred in, which followed ‘Climbed Every Mountain’, where Sue traced the story of the Von Trapp Family.

Sue’s other presenting credits include three series of the BBC Panel show ‘Insert Name Here’, Sky1’s ‘The Big Spell’, three series of the Sky film show ‘Movie Babylon’, and Radio 4’s ‘Dilemma’. She is also a regular contributor to ‘Have I Got News For You’ and ‘QI’ (BBC1), ‘Newsnight Review’ (BBC2), ‘Just a Minute’, and ‘The News Quiz’, (Radio 4).

In 2015, she published her memoir ‘Spectacles’ which reached number one in the Sunday Times Best Seller List, and her second memoir ‘East of Croydon’ was released in 2018, detailing her travels across South-East Asia alongside tales of her growing up in South London. Her witty and warm presenting style found her hosting the prestigious BAFTA Television Awards in 2017 and 2018.
