We are pleased to announce our finalists for the 2020 iteration of the UK Social Mobility Awards, which are in association with Capita. Thank you to everyone who entered, we have been overwhelmed with the quantity and quality of submissions in what is an unprecedented and challenging period for the world.
The SOMO AwardsTM 2020 received an impressive array of entries, that demonstrated excellence in social mobility initiatives, representing a range of sectors and industries. The shortlist contains 55 unique organisations chosen from a much greater number range of submitting ones. The winners will be determined by our independent judging panel and will be announced at a virtual gala to be held on 8th October 2020.
Jon Lewis, CEO of Capita, the Headline Sponsor for the Awards, said:
“Low social mobility is one of the biggest challenges we face here in British society today, and the challenge is now more acute than ever. The Covid-19 crisis has had a dramatic negative impact on economic and educational inequality, the two key drivers of low social mobility. The separation between the haves and the have-nots continues to widen. The aim to create a more socially mobile society must be an integral and conscious part of how we lead businesses in the UK. These Awards are leading that movement.”
Tunde Banjoko OBE – Chief Executive and Founder of the UK Social Mobility Awards and Making The Leap, the charity that runs the SOMO Awards, said:
“We are delighted to have shortlisted our fourth cohort of finalists for the UK Social Mobility Awards. Having received so many quality entries from fantastic organisations and individuals, it was an extremely difficult task. The Awards were created to encourage organisations across the UK to see social mobility as a business imperative and embed core strategies to advance it. Whilst we celebrate the finalists, we equally commend all who entered and all who are engaged with this important agenda in any way.”
